About Ron’s Knife Atlas
A Seattle-area collector’s guide to Japanese knives, built around cooking, curiosity and the pleasure of learning.
I’m Ron, a Seattle-area cook and knife collector. This Atlas grew out of a practical question: what makes one knife a better companion for a particular job?
A keen edge is only the beginning. The shape of the blade affects how it travels through a carrot, releases a potato slice, or feels during a long evening of prep. Steel, heat treatment, handle and maintenance all contribute to the experience.
A collection to learn from
The cabinet connects individual knives with the makers and places behind them. The Geometry lab follows the evidence from a choil photograph to an exterior outline and a grind assessment. The Prep guide and Sharpening sections bring those ideas back to the cutting board.
Follow the evidence
Specifications identify their measurement source. A ~ marks an estimate. Grind assessments combine photographs and published information; recommendations are editorial judgments, not standardized test scores. Photograph credits distinguish model references from photographs of individual knives.
