Questions about the Atlas

How to use the collection, read the evidence and explore the recommendations.

Where should I start?

Browse the Cabinet by maker, knife type or origin. Open a knife to see its photographs, specifications, geometry evidence and care plan. Compare a few side by side, or begin with an ingredient in the Prep guide.

What do Vanilla and Chocolate change?

Vanilla keeps the reading brief, with details tucked into expandable sections. Chocolate brings more of the stories and explanations into view. Both use the same inventory and evidence.

Are these measurements of Ron’s individual knives?

Many are measurements published for a matching model. Each knife’s source notes explain the basis; personal measurements are identified separately when available. Handmade examples can differ.

What can a choil photograph tell me?

It shows a cross-section near the heel. Tracing the exterior perimeter helps compare thickness and curvature, but does not reveal the entire blade’s taper or prove an exact sharpening-angle ratio.

Are the recommendations rankings from cutting tests?

They are reasoned suggestions based on dimensions, geometry, materials and intended use. They offer a starting point for exploration, with room for a surprising pairing that works.

Can I link to an individual knife?

Yes. Open the knife and use its Permanent link, or copy the address in your browser. Each main section also has its own address.

Where can I buy a knife?

The independent-shop directory at the bottom of Curation connects you with retailers, specialist selections and places to visit. The Atlas is an educational collection.
